SparkLab at Queensland Museum Kurilpa is swapping roses for rocket science with an adults-only evening that puts a playful, cosmic spin on Valentine’s Day plans.
Held on Friday February 13, Science Night – A Love Letter to the Universe is a night out designed for curious minds – whether you’re planning a date that goes beyond dinner, celebrating a long-time love or rounding up friends for something a little different.
At the centre of the evening is Dr Sara Webb, an astrophysicist and science communicator known for making the universe feel accessible, surprising and full of personality. Through stories drawn from distant stars and far-flung galaxies, Dr Webb will share the moments that sparked her fascination with space, inviting audiences to see the cosmos through a more romantic, wonder-filled lens.
Once the talk wraps up, it’s time to explore. Guests can roam SparkLab after hours, enjoying rare adults-only access to its interactive STEM spaces and more than 40 hands-on exhibits across three zones. The towering 1.8-metre Science on a Sphere globe sets the mood, live science experiments unfold throughout the venue, and DJ Little Mel will provide the soundtrack. With drinks and light snacks available from the pop-up bar, Science Night offers a clever alternative to the standard Valentine’s formula.
