Earlier this year, Brisbane band Bugs made the heartbreaking announcement that their bassist Jordan Brunoli had been diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer.
Devastated by this news, local industry groups GRAIN and Sunroom have ventured to show support for their mate in the best way they can – by building a powerful fundraising festival, Saving A Bugs Life. With all proceeds and bar profits going towards Jordan’s specialist appointments, medical treatments, medicines and equipment, this event is a testament to the loving solidarity of Brisbane’s music community.
On Saturday October 4, artists Australia-wide will flock to The Tivoli as it transforms into a day festival of more than 13 performances across two stages. Turning out to show their love is DZ Deathrays, Dear Seattle, Beddy Rays, Sly Withers, Hope D, The Buoys, VOIID, TOWNS, Ben David, Talk Heavy, The Steele Syndicate, Tripsitta and more, as well as the Bugs themselves.
The festival will also hold raffles to support the cause with major prizes to be won from a long list of donors. The top prize up for grabs is a Fender Standard Jazz Bass signed by every band playing on the day and donated by Fender. Other donors include Rydges Fortitude Valley, Bar Gusto, Brisbane Broncos, Brisbane Lions and signed prizes from Powderfinger, Dune Rats, Last Dinosaurs Regurgitator, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, Teenage Joans, Ruby Fields and more. Each ticket purchase automatically grants you entry into the raffle, but feel free to show your support by buying more entries on the day.
To show your camaraderie for one of Brisbane’s cherished bands, grab a ticket to Saving A Bugs Life, or if you can’t make it, buy an entry into the raffle here.
