In this vibrant exhibition presented by Museum of Brisbane in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse’s Melt Festival, contemporary artist Gerwyn Davies showcases a striking series of photographic portraits exploring identity, transformation and visibility. Featuring trans and gender-diverse young people from Open Doors Youth Service, each subject appears in a handcrafted sculptural costume co-created with the artist during workshops held as part of Davies’ artist-in-residence project at Museum of Brisbane.
These wearable artworks allow participants to express themselves in spectacular ways while maintaining anonymity, playfully and powerfully reimagining trans and gender-diverse visibility. The final works are exhibited in the Fairfax Gallery, amplifying the voices of the participants and the broader LGBTQIASB+ community.
MoB’s Artist in Residence program is supported by Tim Fairfax AC.
