The sounds of birds, animals and the natural world will echo through QPAC’s Concert Hall this June as Southern Cross Soloists present Carnival of the Animals.

Taking place on Sunday June 14, the afternoon performance reimagines Camille Saint-Saëns’ delightful Carnival of the Animals through Michael Leunig’s distinctly Australian adaptation, with his poetry and illustrations woven throughout.

The program opens with an immersive soundscape, surrounding the audience in the sounds of animals and nature. Works by American composer John Luther Adams and Hollis Taylor sit alongside pieces by First Nations composers Brenda Gifford and Nardi Simpson. In this unmissable one-off performance, the Southern Cross Soloists ensemble will be joined by the Grinberg-Viney piano duo, bringing a dynamic layer to the program.

Carnival of the Animals will unfold through a series of vivid musical snapshots that captures nature in sound, from bounding kangaroos to birds in flight and the slow glide of a swan.

Secure seats via the QPAC website to witness this incredible afternoon of sound.
