If your idea of a perfect Sunday afternoon involves pressing pause on the outside world, Hush by Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) offers a gently immersive, unhurried escape. The unmissable, one-night-only performance at QPAC’s Concert Hall invites audiences to slow down and settle into sound.
Acclaimed guitarist Karin Schaupp joins the SXS ensemble for a program that traces a graceful journey from afternoon light to night. The performance opens with sparkling, dance-driven works by Marin Marais and Isaac Albéniz, brimming with rhythm and movement. From there, familiar sounds by Franz Schubert and Gabriel Fauré usher in a sense of calm, unfolding at a pace guided by breath and heartbeat rather than the clock.
As the afternoon light fades, contemporary composer Max Richter brings the program gently home, offering music that soothes, grounds and quietly envelops the room.
Spanning baroque elegance, romantic lyricism and minimalist modern soundscapes, Hush showcases the SXS ensemble’s trademark virtuosity and thoughtful programming while remaining engaging and accessible. Whether you’re a long-time classical devotee or simply curious to experience live music in a more reflective setting, this is an afternoon designed for listening closely – and leaving quietly restored.
