Since the show’s premiere in 2019, The Gospel According to Paul has sold out venues across Australia, and this year’s nationwide tour promises the same popularity. Written and performed by Jonathan Biggins, this one-man show delves into the life and career of divisive Labor Party politician Paul Keating, with a hearty dose of comedy bringing the rabble-rousing former PM to life on stage.
This year’s production promises a fresh take on Paul’s more recent media moments and continues to build on the play’s cult following.
The Gospel According to Paul celebrates both the charisma and the arrogance of the former politician, taking audiences back through the career milestones that earned Paul his notoriety and diving deep into his political achievements alongside his personal obsessions.
“Love him or hate him, you knew the impact Paul Keating had on the Australian economic and social landscape if you lived through his leadership in the 1990s,” Jonathan shares.
“The infamous 1992 Redfern Speech, Superannuation Guarantee, Native Title Legislation and strengthening of Asia-Pacific relations are all acts and events we still reap the benefits of today. As Australians, we love nostalgia, quick wit and colour – that’s why we continue to love Paul Keating’s story.”
The Gospel According to Paul returns to Brisbane this August at QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre.
