The Lovers at QPAC

From September 13 to October 5, QPAC’s Playhouse Theatre will be swept up in a whirlwind of passion, mischief and magic as Shake & Stir Theatre Co unleashes The Lovers – a bold, high-energy musical inspired by Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Written by Laura Murphy, this electrifying production swaps Shakespearean verse for a brilliant and razor-sharp contemporary script and a dance-worthy arrangement of pop bangers. It’s a fast, funny and heartfelt remix that dives head-first into modern romance – complete with swipes, situationships and ghosting – as Oberon and Puck, the ultimate matchmakers, grapple with the question … is true love on the brink of extinction?

When four young lovers cross their path, chaos, comedy and a touch of magic collide in a night that changes everything. Under the direction of Nick Skubij (Frankenstein, Fourteen), the production fuses a killer live band, innovative video design and a powerhouse cast, including Natalie Abbott, Jason Arrow, Jayme-lee Hanekom, Loren Hunter, Stellar Perry and Mat Verevis.
