The Other Side of Me arrives at QPAC for three performances only this February, bringing a powerful true story to the stage through contemporary dance.
Presented by Gary Lang NT Dance Company, the work translates the lived experiences of a young Aboriginal man born in the Northern Territory in the 1960s, who was adopted by a white English family and raised in the United Kingdom. Told through movement, the production draws on an intimate archive of letters and poems, offering rare access to a man re-examining his life and reconnecting with his First Nations Australian identity from the other side of the world.
Choreographed by Larrakia man Gary Lang, The Other Side of Me brings together world-class performers and creatives through a cross-cultural partnership with Northumbria University (UK). The powerful production confronts the intergenerational trauma of the Stolen Generations while opening broader conversations around identity, adoption, country of origin, the criminal justice system and psychological health.
Through mesmerising movement and emotionally charged moments, The Other Side of Me offers insight into difficult truths of the past and present, tracing the emotional weight of separation, loss and unanswered questions.
