Tiri: Te Araroa Woman Far Walking

This bilingual retelling of the epic tale of Tiri Mahana follows the 185-year-old matriarch from her birth at the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi to present-day Aotearoa. Shared in English and te reo Māori, BAFTA and NZ Film Award-winning director Witi Ihimaera has created a play for the whole whānau to enjoy. 

Cloaked in a feather cape that symbolises the weight of the history she carries, Tiri guides the audience along a journey that explores important moments throughout New Zealand’s history. Tiri: Te Araroa Woman Far Walking weaves an emotional tapestry that celebrates wâhine Māori (women) and the rangatahi (youth) that will lead Aotearoa forward, whilst reminding us that the good things are worth fighting for. 

Starring award-winning actors Miriama McDowell and Nī Dekkers-Reihana, Tiri: Te Araroa Woman Far Walking premieres at the Brisbane Powerhouse on Thursday September 10 and concludes Sunday September 13.
