Ready for an experience like no other?
Bat Night Market is making its Australian premiere as part of World Science Festival Brisbane, transforming a futuristic Asian night market into a lively, immersive performance experience. Blending science, speculative design and storytelling, the walk-through event explores the ecological role of bats and why protecting them matters now more than ever.
Audiences are invited to roam the pop-up market their own pace, guided by performers through interactive zones filled with games, tastings, discussions and sensory encounters. The experience runs for up to 75 minutes, with each section offering a fresh way to engage with bat behaviour, biodiversity and interspecies resourcefulness.
Set in a future where bat species are extinct, Bat Night Market also looks ahead to creative food solutions and how humans and other species might adapt in the not-so-distant future. Using the familiar buzz of a night market as its backdrop, science and imagination unfold through sound, spectacle and flavour.
Bat Night Market is an international collaboration between artist Kuang-Yi Ku and designer Robert Charles Johnson.
