With summer now officially here andthose long, languid days beginning to unfold, there’s no better excuse to jump on the ferry and rediscover one of Queensland’s favourite island escapes. This season brings something extra special with it – The Straddie Hotel has reopened, revealing a fresh coastal polish, renewed energy and an exciting new chapter for the beloved Point Lookout landmark.

For decades, The Straddie Hotel has moved in step with North Stradbroke Island’s relaxed rhythm – a place for salty, sunburnt afternoons, ice-cold beers and beachside bites. Now, following an extensive restoration led by Moreton Hospitality, the venue emerges with a thoughtful reinvention that honours its history while embracing the island’s next era.

Designed by KP Architects with cultural direction by Example, the transformation refreshes the hotel’s identity without losing the soul locals know and love. Light-filled interiors replace the former darker palette, a breezy upper deck invites guests to linger longer, and a second bar positioned in the heart of the venue ensures you’re never far from refreshments. An expanded all-weather deck, made possible by a new operable roof system, opens the space to panoramic views – sun when you want it, shelter when you need it.

At the centre of the renewal is the reimagined bistro, a bright and easygoing destination where classic pub favourites are lifted with fresh, ocean-leaning flavours. The menu blends nostalgia with approachability – woodfired pizzas, crisp seafood, vibrant salads and elevated pub-style plates made for settling in after a day by the sea. Paired with a cold beer or a signature cocktail, it’s quintessential Straddie.

Live entertainment is also set to make a strong return. With a new stage, upgraded sound and a line-up championing local talent and touring favourites, the hotel is once again poised to be the island’s cultural heartbeat. Weekends will hum with acoustic sets, sunset sessions and lively nights that spill out under the stars.

Outside, the revamped terrace unfolds across sunlit tiers with sweeping views of the coastline, offering the perfect vantage point for whale-watching, wave-spotting or letting a long afternoon roll effortlessly into evening.

So whether you’re visiting for the day, escaping for the weekend or returning after years away, The Straddie Hotel is ready to welcome you back with open arms, cold beers and some of Queensland’s best ocean views. With summer in full swing, consider this your cue to catch the ferry and experience the new chapter of an old favourite.
