For most folks, the name Skygate is synonymous with shopping sprees. From clothes and accessories to homewares, the precinct has the lot. But there’s more to Skygate than meets the eye. The hub has evolved into a multifaceted destination with something to offer every member of the family, from roaring dinosaurs to retail finds. If you’re on the hunt for a new outing destination, here’s an all-day itinerary to help you make the most of your next Skygate visit …

Stop one: Brekkie before the browse

After arriving at Skygate, the first port of call should be one of the precinct’s top-notch dining spots. If you’re starting the day early, we suggest popping over to Goodfellas Cafe & Eatery first, where you and the brood can fuel up on Campos coffee and bang-on brekkie plates like croque madames, eggs Benedict and avocado toast. Another option is The Coffee Club, which boasts a relaxed indoor-outdoor setting, perfect for enjoying an all-day breakfast – including a Kids Club menu for the youngsters.

Bellies full? Great – it’s time to take a lap of Skygate’s family-friendly retail options at DFO Brisbane. For fresh threads, look for Cotton On Kids and Ollie’s Place, while Smiggle is great for back-to-school essentials, backpacks and gifts.

Stop two: Playtime awaits

Once you’ve explored the shops – and with energy levels still high – it’s activity time. Now, Skygate has a few engaging options sure to capture the attention of every member of the family, from imagination-igniting displays to places for some friendly competition. There’s Landers Pocket, an entertainment precinct that brings together sport, food and drink. The venue is equipped with not one, but two mini-golf courses (an advanced course and a family-friendly putt putt setup boasting classic obstacles), as well as a number of high-tech Play Bays for stress-free swings.

There’s also the precinct’s newest entertainment offering, Dinos Alive – an immersive experience that takes guests on a tour of the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Witness more than 40 dinosaurs in their natural habitat with the help of powerful VR technology and lifelike animatronic displays. As you head back to the shops, keep an eye out for Skygate’s large-scale murals, which make for a great photo opportunity.

Stop three: Take five and tuck in

After expending some energy, you’ll likely be looking for a lunchtime feed. If you are still near Landers Pocket, consider grabbing a table to enjoy the venue’s award-winning fare, including hearty burgers, steak sandwiches, pizzas, tacos and much more. Meanwhile, the Transit Tavern is a go-to place for classic pub plates, including chicken parmigiana, battered fish and chips, lamb shanks and Thai duck red curry. If you’re on a time crunch, there’s a host of express eats on offer, including Burger Urge, Burrito Bar and Sushi Nova.

Stop four: Finish with a flourish

Satiated once more, it’s time for one final shopping sprint. When it comes to retail, a splurge at DFO Brisbane is a choose-your-own-adventure experience. Keen to spruce up your living space? Visit Adairs or Sheridan. Need to refresh your wardrobe? Decjuba, Forever New, Guess, Rodd & Gunn and Levi’s will have what you need. If you want to upgrade your cooking game, a visit to Lemon Ginger or Le Creuset could be just the ticket. You’ve got to keep the kids engaged, of course – Converse, Platypus and Hype DC are great stores for clothes, shoes and accessories.

By the time the bags are full and the kids are happily worn out, you’ll understand why Skygate has become so much more than a shopping destination. Whether you’re chasing a family-friendly day out, a spot of retail therapy, a bite to eat or a dose of entertainment, the precinct makes it easy to tick every box in a single visit. Be sure to follow the hub’s Facebook and Instagram pages to keep tabs on current events and deals.
