Last Thursday, a bold homegrown fashion label debuted its new studio in Fortitude Valley, following an edgy, subversive seasonal collection. Also Known As Atelier (A.K.A.) is the lifeblood creation of 26-year-old Brisbane designer Ayla Anderson, who welcomed the city to her new studio last week. Let’s take a look …

Since 2023, A.K.A. has centred its work on narrative-driven design, precise craftsmanship and conceptual tailoring – taking a modern approach to classic suiting to subvert traditional silhouettes. The brand’s unconventional interpretation of classic suiting has seen Also Known As Atelier gain attention within the fashion industry quickly, attracting influential creatives and earning multiple red carpet appearances. Now, A.K.A. has opened its debut studio in Fortitude Valley last week, a development which founder Ayla describes as surreal.

“Opening our own space just months after our first independent runway show feels surreal,” says Ayla. “Building A.K.A. has been a deeply collaborative effort, and this space is a reflection of the incredible team and supportive creative community behind us. Brisbane’s design scene is growing so rapidly, and we are proud to be part of that momentum.”

Reflecting a growing demand for distinctive, locally made and high-quality pieces, A.K.A. has cultivated a vibrant community of designers, artists and collaborators. The team has transformed the inner-city space into an immersive studio for visitors to experience the brand’s inspiration and offerings first-hand.

The opening follows the brand’s sold-out Autumn-Winter 2026 runway debut earlier this year, which showcased a collection of the brand’s signature suiting and bold, dramatic style. With ready-to-wear, made-to-measure and bespoke offerings, the contemporary Australian fashion label is proudly designed and produced in Brisbane.

The Atelier is now open by appointment only, located at 74 Wickham Street in Fortitude Valley. Eager eyes can browse the looks or book a consultation here.
