There’s a lot happening in the world right now and we’re more aware of it than ever through the constant stream of social media posts. If you’ve been craving a break from the noise, the Scenic Rim Trail’s new four-day self-guided walk offers a chance to switch off and reconnect with nature. Designed for experienced hikers, the multi-day experience invites walkers to step away from the screen and into Queensland’s remote wilderness.

Set just 90 minutes from Brisbane, amongst the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforest – spanning roughly 370,000 hectares of ancient, biodiverse ecosystems – lies your next grand hiking adventure.

Since launching in 2009, the Scenic Rim Trail has become one of Queensland’s leading ecotourism experiences, offering a range of two-, three-, four- and six-day guided tours, alongside family-specific getaways for the school holidays.

Tapping into a growing appetite for slow travel and mental switch-offs, the new hike offers an alternative to packed itineraries, positioning hiking as an achievable and restorative escape rather than an extreme goal.

“Until now, we haven’t had an offering for experienced hikers who want to walk independently but don’t want to carry tents, food and overnight gear,” founder Jude Turner says.

The new multi-day experience is designed for exactly that, allowing capable, self-sufficient hikers to roam freely at their own pace. Beginning at Clumber Base on the outskirts of Mount Edwards, hikers are transferred to the Thornton trailhead to commence the walk. Covering roughly 18 km per day, the trail winds through remote subtropical rainforest, open eucalypt forest, creek crossings and mountainous ridgelines, with highlights including sunrise at Mount Edwards, Dalrymple Falls and the Bare Rock scramble – plus the satisfaction of saying you completed it.

“This experience completes our overall offering, opening up the trail to people with strong outdoor skills who value both independence and comfort,” Jude says.

Though comfort may not be the first word that comes to mind when describing a 60 km hike, this experience delivers exactly that. Gone are the days of lugging heavy tents, food and overnight gear on your back. Instead, walkers are treated to daily chef-curated meals, hot showers and comfortable beds at exclusive private eco-accommodation sites including Mt Mistake Farmhouse, Amphitheatre Eco Camp and Timber Getters Eco Camp

With every detail taken care of, you’re free to immerse yourself in the landscape and disconnect from reality – even if only for a short while.

Bookings open Wednesday June 10 2026, with monthly departures available. For more information and to explore the full itinerary, head here
