Nothing says Easter quite like a tray of deliciously fluffy hot cross buns, still warm from the oven and topped with a generous schmear of butter, of course. Call us eager, but we went on a little hunt of our own to find the best spots to get your hot cross bun fix across the Gold Coast this year.
Fuel Bakehouse, Currumbin, Burleigh Heads and Cabarita
This year, Fuel Bakehouse is doing things a little differently. All three Fuel locations will baking fresh hot cross bun scrolls from the week before Easter and all over Easter weekend. The bakers will be lovingly pumping out two flavours this year – a traditional fruit hot cross scroll (which just happens to be vegan, too) as well as a decadent choc-chip variety. While now in scroll form, your HCBs are in very good hands here.
5B2F Bakehouse, Chirn Park
On any given weekend, you’ll find a line of eager pastry lovers waiting to indulge in 5B2F’s freshly baked treats and artisan breads. But when hot cross bun season rolls around, the excitement reaches a whole new level. Pastry chef and owner Moonsun Yoo and the talented team are again slinging their famed hot cross buns. The milky, soft bun is infused with cranberries, raisins and apricots – the fruits are all marinated in port wine first to ensure the buns have depth from first bite to the last.

Tarte Beach House, Currumbin and Tarte Bakery and Cafe, Burleigh
If there’s one thing we know about Tarte’s owner Chloe Watts, is that she doesn’t do things by halves, and it’s especially true when it comes to hot cross buns. This year, Currumbin’s beach house is luring baked goods lovers a delicious new HCB recipe that the team says is their best yet. Sold with their house-whipped dulce and macadamia praline butter, these tasty morsels are the perfect Easter treat.

Burleigh Baker, Burleigh Heads and Paradise Point
When it comes to baked goods on the Gold Coast, Burleigh Baker is always a crowd favourite. The team is once again delighting taste buds with its deliciously soft, fruit-filled sourdough hot cross buns, which are handcrafted and fermented for 24 hours to honour the bakery’s gut health policy.

Franquette, Tamborine Mountain
If you find yourself wandering around Tamborine Mountain with a hankering for a hot cross bun, make haste to Franquette, which will be slinging buns the week prior to Easter and over the Easter week. The soft hot cross buns will be freshly baked on site and are expected to come out of the oven at around 8:00 am – be sure to time your visit so you can get them hot and fresh. Franquette will also be baking super fluffy hot cross bun loaves – perfect for pulling apart at home this Easter.
The Bread Social, Currumbin and Tweed Heads
The Bread Social is now slinging its freshly baked OG and chocolate hot cross buns across Currumbin and Tweed Heads from now until Easter – online orders are open too!

Bam Bam Bakehouse, Mermaid Beach
When it comes to delightfully decadent, handcrafted pastries, Bam Bam is the master. This Easter, the pastry chefs are baking a deliciously gooey hot cross bun piped with swirls of Biscoff cream. The team also hints at other Easter treats coming soon – keep your eyes peeled.
