Regularly topping global happiness rankings, the Nordic countries have long been celebrated for their balanced, wellness-focused lifestyles. Drawing from the rich traditions of Scandinavian sauna culture and the revitalising practice of hot-cold therapy, Navia is Byron Bay’s newest bathhouse – embracing wellness not as a passing trend, but as a deeply rooted way of life.
Tuning into the laid-back rhythms of Byron Bay, Navia is your invitation to slow down and escape the rat race, even just for a moment. The beautiful new bathhouse experience is inspired by the Nordic values of inclusiveness, connection and the concept of hygge (pronounced hoo-gah), a Danish word that loosely translates to a feeling of contentment, comfort and well-being, often enjoyed with others or through simple, soothing practices.
Navia is the brainchild of founders Patrick Dusting and Lucia Wilkinson, who travelled through the serene bathhouses of Scandinavia, soaking in both the thermal waters and the wisdom of cultures that make sauna a daily ritual. They brought back not just inspiration, but intention, infusing the space with authenticity, care and a sense of community that sets it apart.
Step inside and you’re met with black timber tones, a traditional sauna, a steam room, a magnesium-rich hot pool, an invigorating 0–2°C ice plunge and a slightly gentler 8°C cold plunge. Between circuits, guests can unwind in the lounge with nourishing snacks and refreshments. If you’re keen to make the most of your relaxation experience, Navia offers 60- and 90-minute massage treatments – including remedial, relaxation and pregnancy massage.
Lucia led the design of Navia, ensuring every detail reflects the Scandinavian philosophy of hygge – a sense of cosy comfort and contentment that’s hard to describe but impossible to miss. It’s in the warmth of the timber, the softness of the lighting and the way time seems to slow as you step through the doors.
In a world that glorifies hustle, Navia is a gentle rebellion. A reminder that self-care and relaxation isn’t indulgent – it’s essential. Whether you’re seeking solitude, connection, or a new rhythm of wellness, Navia Bathhouse is Byron Bay’s newest invitation to feel good and sauna like the happiest people on Earth.
