In a world that glorifies convenience, there’s a quiet rebellion underway. You might have felt it – a pull towards things that are a little more considered, a little more intentional. A step away from mass-produced goods with ingredient lists you can’t quite pronounce, and back towards bread made by human hands that morning, ceramic pieces with the subtle imperfections of something truly handmade, and objects with a real story behind them. That’s the spirit behind the inaugural Gathered and Made Twilight Market, arriving in Tugun on Saturday May 9, just ahead of Mother’s Day.
Curated by maker Kerry Shepherd, the Gathered and Made Twilight Market brings together 26 creatives whose work is shaped by care, resourcefulness and a deep respect for materials. This is a place where you can meet the person behind what you’re buying – where every piece has a story.
Among the stalls, you’ll find Kerstein of Greenbird Gourmet working in step with the seasons, sourcing local produce and transforming it into rich chutneys and relishes. Amanda of QHearts rescues discarded fabrics destined for landfill, reworking them into beautifully considered sewn pieces, while Spoon Gal takes timber offcuts and shapes them into objects that feel both functional and quietly striking.
Then there’s Indu of Mohini Natural Cosmetics, who tends her own bees and crafts small-batch, toxin-free products from her hives. And Georgena of LuvdAgain, who has spent decades collecting vintage linens – tea towels and tablecloths filled with memory – reimagining them into one-of-a-kind garments that carry their past with them.
For Kerry, who has a long history here on the Gold Coast, it’s this return to meaning that sits at the centre of it all. “The makers gathered here are nothing short of extraordinary – each one brings a story, a purpose and a deep respect for materials to their craft,” she tells us. “This is making with meaning. Thoughtful, individual and deeply intentional.”
Set across a relaxed twilight session, the market invites you to slow down – to wander, to connect and to choose something that feels like it matters. Whether you’re searching for a unique Mother’s Day gift or simply want to spend an afternoon somewhere that values people and process over production, this is a market that offers something a little more lasting.
Held indoors, Gathered and Made is on rain, hail or shine – but more than that, it’s a reminder that what we choose to buy, and who we choose to buy it from, matters. Perhaps now more than ever.
