The Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal and the Empire State Building are coming to the Gold Coast this summer, although not quite as you know them. Brickman’s Wonders of the World is taking over HOTA Gallery from December 5, bringing more than 50 extraordinary LEGO creations, intricate architectural marvels and hands-on building experiences to the coast.
Forget the passport and the long-haul flights. This summer, you can travel from the Great Wall of China to the Taj Mahal, swing past the Empire State Building and explore the Great Barrier Reef, all without leaving the Gold Coast. The catch? Everything is made from LEGO bricks. Opening at HOTA Gallery on December 5, Brickman’s Wonders of the World is bringing some of the planet’s most recognisable landmarks together under one roof, recreated in extraordinary detail by LEGO Certified Professional Ryan ‘Brickman’ McNaught and his team.
Featuring more than 50 creations inspired by famous landmarks and wonders from around the globe, the exhibition is a fascinating collision of art, architecture and engineering. From towering structures to intricate details and unexpected surprises tucked into the builds, there’s plenty to keep curious minds occupied. And while the exhibition is undoubtedly a drawcard for little LEGO enthusiasts, the sheer scale and ingenuity of the creations should give grown-ups plenty to marvel at, too.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be bringing Wonders of the World to HOTA, Home of the Arts,” Ryan says. “These builds take LEGO bricks to an entirely different level, celebrating some of the world’s most incredible landmarks through creativity, imagination and an extraordinary amount of detail.”
Beyond admiring the finished masterpieces, visitors will have the opportunity to discover the stories behind the landmarks and learn about the remarkable achievements that shaped them. There will also be hands-on building stations, giving budding architects and engineers the chance to put their own creativity to the test. Who knows, you might have a future Brickman in the family.
The exhibition arrives just in time for the Christmas school holidays, adding another family-friendly experience to HOTA’s summer calendar. Whether you’re a lifelong LEGO devotee, an architecture enthusiast or simply looking for something different to do with the kids, this is definitely one for the calendar.
