Byron Writers Festival is back for an unmissable three-day celebration of literature in the heart of the Northern Rivers. 

Taking place from August 8–10, the 2025 iteration of Byron Writers Festival will bring together an incredible series of acclaimed writers, storytellers and voices in a series of events held on Bundjalung Country at the picturesque Bangalow Showgrounds. Ahead of the full program release, organisers have unveiled the first nine authors to give an exciting preview of this year’s world-class line-up of local, national and international names.

Prepare to be inspired by literary luminary Esther Freud, Australian national treasure Helen Garner, award-winning author and masterful storyteller Nardi Simpson, memoirist and Alone Australia winner Gina Chick, and bestselling writer Markus Zusak. Also joining the Byron Writers Festival lineup in August is journalist and commentator Joe Aston, Miles Franklin Award winner Michelle de Kretser, acclaimed author and advocate Thomas Mayo, and celebrated novelist Hannah Kent.
