Every winter, as the sugarcane ripens and the scent of fresh-cut cane fills the valley, Husk Farm Distillery opens its gates for a celebration like no other. The Husk Rum Harvest Fest is back for 2025, taking over the Tumbulgum distillery on August 23–24 for a weekend of rum-soaked revelry, live music, smoked feasts and paddock-party vibes.
Described as part open day, part full-blown party, the Harvest Fest invites locals and visitors alike to experience everything the farm grows, makes and pours. “It’s our way of sharing the harvest with the community,” says co-founder Harriet Messenger. “It’s about celebrating what we grow, make and enjoy together – and having a great time doing it.”
The Saturday festival is packed with energy – think live blues bands on the main stage, rum masterclasses with head distiller Quentin Brival, refreshing cane juice cocktails made with juice pressed on-site and a few cheeky competitions like the fan-favourite Sugarcane Javelin and Cowboy Catwalk (yes, dress-ups are encouraged). Food trucks and fire pits round out the party vibe.
Sunday is all about slowing down, with acoustic sets, community games and the return of the beloved Mini Olympics – perfect for families and anyone who prefers their cocktails with a side of relaxation.
Tickets start at $15 (Sunday) and $20 (Saturday) and include a cane juice and rum cocktail on arrival, access to tastings and masterclasses. Kids under 18 are free – but spots are limited and this event has sold out two years running.
Whether you’re there for the rum or just the good times, Husk Rum Harvest Fest is a true celebration of the Northern Rivers spirit – fresh, fiery and full of flavour.
