The Golden Thread, a Gold Coast-based feminist arts collective, is bringing its debut group exhibition, Revelations, to Mermaid Beach this October.
Hosted by the ALOW (Art Lives On Walls) Gallery in Mermaid Beach, Revelations will be showing from Saturday October 4 until Sunday October 12.
The Golden Thread is a group of women and gender diverse artists, established in 2022 by locals Tai Fitzpatrick and Merinda Davies. The two created the collective to foster community, collaboration and visibility across creative practices. Revelations is the group’s first group exhibition, with 30 artists from the collective coming together to show their paintings, sculptures, textiles, photographs, installations, videos and performances.
Focusing on the concept of Revelations, the exhibition showcases the transformative power of hidden secrets and the unknown being revealed in unexpected and enlightening ways.
“The Golden Thread has grown to become a supportive, empowering network that champions femme and gender diverse artists regardless of what medium they work in or what stage of their career they’re in. We can’t wait to share this talent with the wider community through Revelations,” Tai says.
The opening night on Saturday October 4 will feature live performances by experimental artist Lewis and Indonesian-Australian choreographer Juliet Widyasari Burnett.
Closing out the exhibition on Sunday October 12, choreographer Kate Harman and dancer Tilly Backus will perform live, followed by a performance by musician Creation Saffinga with local band Selve.
The exhibition will feature a bespoke gallery gift shop stocked with prints, pieces, mugs, zines and more from the showcased artists.
