Queensland’s largest outdoor sculpture event is returning to Currumbin Beach this weekend to showcase Australian art on the Gold Coast’s idyllic sands. Kicking off on Friday, SWELL will celebrate its 23rd year with a stacked 10-day festival will welcome more than 80 works from almost 230 artists. Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to attend SWELL as it decorates 1.2km of foreshore from Currumbin Alley to Kropp Park.

This year’s program features a line-up of art-related activities and experiences to exhilarate all the senses. Art enthusiasts can take part in a guided walk to learn more about the scattered artworks gracing Currumbin’s sands and the talented artists behind them. Maybe you would rather sate your cravings in a three-course artistic and culinary experience at SWELL Fired Feast. If the showcase has you feeling inspired to create something of your own, there’s a host of workshops and masterclasses on offer. Take home an original work of art at SWELL Smalls Gallery, or immerse yourself in live music, shows and artists talks with SWELL Fringe. The SWELL Kids program invites young minds to seed planting, dinosaur shows and the Storyfest Beach Library. SWELL Wellness is offering opportunities to get active including a sunrise stand-up paddle board session, sunrise Pilates, yoga, tai chi and beach clean-up experiences.

SWELL co-founder and artistic director Natasha Edwards says the festival is a unique opportunity to see incredible artworks against a stunning backdrop.

“We love watching the connection of people, art, and place come together at Currumbin Beach, and we can’t wait to see the joy and inspiration this year’s sculptures are going to bring.”
