Trent Dalton’s Love Stories

Prepare to fall in love all over again this October as best-selling author Trent Dalton’s iconic Love Stories heads to the HOTA stage for three days of true love tales. From Thursday October 9 to Saturday October 11, HOTA will host five showings of stage play based on the award-winning domestic journalism novel.

In 2021, Trent Dalton and his trusty sky-blue 1960’s Olivetti typewriter spent two months in Brisbane’s CBD, collecting countless strangers’ answers to one simple question; ‘Can you please tell me a love story?’

The result was Dalton’s Love Stories, a collection of the heartbreaking, joyous and profound stories he gathered, from a father preparing himself for the day he lets go of his daughter’s hand to a working mum contemplating taking the photographs of her late husband down from the fridge.

The page-to-stage production of Love Stories has been directed by Sam Strong and Tim McGarry, the same team who adapted Boy Swallows Universe to the stage. Only running for three days’ worth of showings, this is a theatrical love story you do not want to miss.
