WONDER: CLOUD PLAY

This winter, HOTA will unveil its most ambitious Wonder installation yet — CLOUD PLAY, a breathtaking kinetic sculpture by celebrated international artist Patrick Shearn of Poetic Kinetics. Created exclusively for the Gold Coast, this 530-square-metre airborne artwork transforms thousands of colourful ribbons into a shimmering sky installation that shifts with the wind. Woven into the piece are handwritten reflections from locals, creating a living expression of community spirit and connection. During the day, it’s a mesmerising dance of movement and meaning; by night, it glows to life in a dazzling, data-responsive light show by IKONIX. Accompanied by an immersive soundscape featuring William Barton and Saltwater man Lann Levinge, CLOUD PLAY runs from May 31 to July 13 as part of the Wonder 2025 program.
