Jun 04, 2025, updated Jun 05, 2025

For the past decade, Mamasan in Broadbeach has been a beloved destination for modern Asian cuisine, whether it’s a special occasion or a casual date night. Now, as the restaurant marks its 10-year milestone, owners Lauren and JP Duitsch are celebrating by turning the page on a bold new chapter – a full-scale renovation of the iconic venue. But don’t worry, the Mamasan experience isn’t going anywhere. Enter BabyMama a sleek, intimate pop-up in Nobby Beach, dishing up a curated taste of everything fans love as well as some exciting new additions. Here’s what you need to know …

Stepping into BabyMama, you might wonder how such a beautifully designed space could be temporary. This pop-up has completely transformed the space formerly occupied by dining spot Tayta Nikkei, creating a moody and intimate atmosphere that’s both captivating and inviting. With options for both bar and table dining, BabyMama perfectly balances the vibe of a relaxed neighbourhood spot with an elevated dining experience, making it a welcome addition to Nobby Beach’s thriving hospitality scene.

Fans of the Broadbeach iteration will be pleased to know that a selection of Mama’s faves have made it across, specifically, the spanner-crab tortellini dumplings, Mamasan KFC and the crowd-pleasing wagyu red curry, alongside some exciting new creations from executive chef Sebastian Tan, who brings serious firepower to the pans. With 18-plus years of experience in globally renowned kitchens like St. Regis and Silks, Hakkasan and Crown, Sebastian’s take on East Asian cuisine is polished yet playful, and anything but predictable.

New menu highlights include the Sichuan burrata with house-made chilli crisp and Chinese doughnuts, scallop and prawn brioche toast, charcoal grilled market fish wrapped in banana leaf with chilli and smoked soy, and Sebastian’s specialty – 72 hour whole roasted duck, which is served with pancakes and traditional accompaniments.

To round things out, BabyMama’s drinks list delivers a tightly curated selection of handcrafted cocktails, featuring standout sips such as the blood orange paloma, wagyu fat-washed old fashioned and the punchy house favourite, Big Mama. BabyMama also boasts a premium sake selection and a rotating wine list designed to complement the menu with every sip.

Owners Lauren and JP Duitsch said, “BabyMama is our way of keeping the Mamasan spirit alive while we create something really special behind the scenes in Broadbeach. It’s a fresh space with the same heart, and we’re so excited to welcome guests into something that feels both familiar and new.”

While there’s no set date for how long BabyMama will stay in the precinct, the response from the local community has already been overwhelmingly positive.

“Nobby Beach has really come into its own in recent years. There’s such a great mix of operators doing incredible things, and we’re proud to now be part of it,” Lauren and JP Duitsch said.

It may only be temporary, but this little sister sure knows how to make an entrance.
