Paradise Point has just scored a vibrant new dining spot set to spice up your day, or night. Taco fans, meet Street Taco Bar & Taqueria. The brainchild of chef and owner Jorge Camargo, who has spent more than a decade cooking in Australia, the taqueria blends Latin warmth, Cali-inspired flavours and freshly shaken margaritas into one colourful dining experience.
Mexican food is one of those cuisines that always hits the spot. Vibrant, versatile and made for sharing, it’s the perfect choice for a quick bite or a lingering feast with friends. And now, the northern Gold Coast has its own new go-to – Street Taco Bar & Taqueria.
The venue is a long-held dream for Jorge, who was born in Colombia and first came to Australia to study English. His journey took him from washing cars to kitchens across the Gold Coast, including The Collective in Palm Beach. Along the way, he discovered not just a love for food but a desire to create a space that reflected both his heritage and his adopted home.
On the menu, tacos are the star. Think slow-cooked beef topped with fresh salsa, and Cali-style fish tacos drizzled with chipotle cream, cabbage and salsa fresca. Vegetarians aren’t left out, with options like veggie tacos layered with guacamole and pickled onions, and indulgent haloumi tacos with caramelised chilli and avocado.
For those after something more, Jorge has added specialties such as beef quesabirrias slow-cooked in a rich spice blend, chile con carne and fresh ceviche de pescado.
Finish on a sweet note with churros dusted in cinnamon sugar and served with dulce de leche, a dish that has already become a house favourite.
“I went to California last year,” Jorge says. “We had really good Mexican food there. And then I was like, you know what? I love it. I need this.”
That inspiration, he explains, became the foundation for Street Taco Bar & Taqueria. “We tried to do it as authentic as possible,” he says, “But obviously, we are in Paradise Point, so we had to bring a little of that too.”
For Jorge, it’s about more than food. “I want people to feel the warmth of Latino culture when they walk in,” he says.
And because no Mexican feast is complete without a margarita, Street Taco delivers, deliciously. The bar serves up both classics and creative twists – from the fiery jalapeno-spiked spicy margarita to the tropical coconut margarita. Every drink is mixed with freshly squeezed lime juice, never bottled.
“Freshness makes all the difference,” Jorge says. “People taste that, and they love it.”
Another point of pride is Jorge’s commitment to making the menu entirely gluten free. “Right now, we are 90-percent,” he says. “But by next week, we’ll be completely gluten free.” That includes adapting dishes like churros and jalapeno poppers so everyone can enjoy them.
“We don’t do shortcuts. Everything is fresh, everything is made with care.”
Casual yet welcoming enough to settle in, Street Taco Bar & Taqueria is perfect for everything from a quick taco fix to a margarita-fuelled night with friends.
