Months after ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred tore through the Gold Coast earlier this year, Cali Beach has made a triumphant return. The beloved Surfers Paradise rooftop venue has reopened atop Elkhorn Avenue with a brand-new look, reimagined as a European-style beach club made for long lunches, sunset cocktails and endless summer energy. Take a peek at Cali Beach 2.0 …
After six months behind closed doors, Surfers Paradise’s iconic rooftop playground is back. Cali Beach has reopened following a multi-million-dollar transformation that has redefined the venue as a European-style beach club. Rather than rebuild what was lost, Artesian Hospitality chose to completely reimagine it. The result is a sleek, resort-style escape that feels as though it’s been plucked from the coastlines of Mykonos or Ibiza and dropped atop Elkhorn Avenue.
“The aftermath of the cyclone threw us a curveball, but instead of rebuilding, we reimagined,” says Artesian founder and partner Matt Keegan. “What’s emerged is a revitalised Cali Beach – sun-soaked, elevated and infused with that unmistakable Euro Summer energy.”
Cali’s new look blends natural textures with coastal cool – think soft timbers, whitewashed stone and breezy palms set against the glittering backdrop of the Pacific. New shaded cabanas, free-seating zones and a dedicated dance floor bring a laidback yet sophisticated vibe to the open-air venue, while live saxophone sets and curated cocktails take the experience from day to night. “It’s a totally different feel now – endless days that roll effortlessly into unforgettable nights,” Matt adds. “Think long afternoons on a daybed, golden-hour cocktails, then dancing beneath the stars.”
Cali Beach’s refreshed menu matches the sun-soaked mood. Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean coast, it’s designed for leisurely grazing – we’re talking kingfish ceviche with lime and chilli, Baja-style fish tacos, and chargrilled steak tostadas. Larger sharing platters like the Fiesta – loaded with fish tacos, jalapeno poppers and grilled corn – and the Signature spread of ceviches, sliders and skewers make group dining effortless. Behind the bar, frozen blue margaritas and Cali Coladas are poured alongside cocktails like the Million Dollar Marg and pistachio-white chocolate martini. It’s playful, polished and perfectly suited to long afternoons by the pool.
The multi-level space now features three distinct bars – the main bar, pool bar and VIP terrace – alongside a volleyball court, outdoor cinema and new alfresco kitchen designed to bring the aroma of sizzling seafood and chargrilled fare to the fore. Plush daybeds and private cabanas frame the pools, while the revamped beach area offers bottle service, live entertainment and plenty of room to unwind.
From afternoon lounging to late-night dancing, Cali Beach has reclaimed its place as the city’s go-to for elevated coastal indulgence. Head to The Directory for opening times and booking details.
