Surfers Paradise is set to welcome a new kind of pub, with Artesian Hospitality confirming plans to open The Fig ’n’ Fox, a modern English pub designed to trade from morning through late night. Due to open ahead of Easter, the venue will take over the prominent corner of Orchid and Elkhorn avenues, breathing new life into a site that has worn a few different hats over the years.

The Fig ’n’ Fox is being built around the concept of a classic British local with warm timber finishes, traditional booth seating and a striking feature bar that is set to anchor the space. The venue will offer extensive indoor and outdoor dining areas, alongside a dedicated games space with pool tables and electronic darts. Downstairs, a large basement live-music room will add another layer to the experience, with capacity to host hundreds for gigs and late-night sessions.

“At its core, this is a proper British pub – built on warmth, familiarity, great food and cold beers,” says Matthew Keegan, founder and managing partner of Artesian Hospitality.

Food will play a central role in shaping the identity of The Fig ’n’ Fox, with the menu being developed by Artesian Hospitality’s group executive chef Richard Harris, formerly of the Rockpool Group. A UK native, Richard is placing authenticity front and centre with a classic English offering that includes bangers and mash, beef-and-Guinness pies, paper-wrapped fish and chips and Yorkshire puddings, alongside a handful of familiar Australian favourites like chicken parmigiana and quality steaks. Anchoring the menu will be “the best Sunday Roast the Gold Coast has ever seen,” a press release reads.

“English pubs live and die by their food,” Richard says.

The opening of The Fig ’n’ Fox marks a significant milestone for Artesian Hospitality, representing the group’s first freehold property acquisition and the first public step in a broader pipeline of projects currently underway across South East Queensland and beyond. With defit works already in progress and an opening targeted ahead of Easter (subject to approvals), this new British pub is shaping up to be a welcome addition to Surfers Paradise’s evolving hospitality mix – one built for locals, visitors and anyone in search of a proper pint and a solid meal.
