The wait is over as Gemellini makes its Nobby Beach comeback

Some restaurant closures are felt more than others. When Gemellini was unexpectedly forced to shut its doors in April, Nobby Beach lost one of its long-standing neighbourhood favourites. Five months later, the pizza oven is firing once again and locals have wasted little time reclaiming their tables.

At long last, Gemellini has reopened after an unexpected hiatus.

The closure came after a fire broke out in the roof cavity above the kitchen, causing significant damage and requiring a much larger restoration than first anticipated. Thankfully, everyone inside was safely evacuated – but getting Gemellini back on its feet wasn’t as simple as first hoped.

The silver lining is that the team has been able to give the restaurant a bit of a refresh along the way. The kitchen has been completely rebuilt, improvements have been made throughout the dining room and there’s a greater focus on the bar, including six permanent seats that might just become some of the most sought-after perches in the house.

It’s a fresh chapter, but Gemellini hasn’t messed with the things people have been missing. Woodfired pizza, handmade pasta and Italian classics remain firmly at the heart of the menu, alongside a handful of new additions.

Among them are Roman-style grilled lamb, anchovies with focaccia and smaller spuntini plates such as gnocco fritto, giving you a few new reasons to order one more plate for the table. The drinks list has had some attention too, with new cocktails and wines joining the mix.

After ten years in Nobby Beach, Gemellini has become one of those restaurants that feels stitched into the fabric of the suburb, which perhaps explains why its return has been met with such enthusiasm.

Gemellini is now open again in Nobby Beach, with bookings available online.
