As the cooler months descend on Byron Bay, a contemporary boutique hotel with minimalist coastal style and a holistic approach to wellness will open its doors on Jonson Street. The Bonobo by Raes, Byron’s newest modernist hotel and lifestyle destination, will unite flexible accommodation and a curated mix of wellness and retail offerings, elevated by the hotel’s dedicated wellness partner, Reset. With bookings now open and an opening date set for June, The Bonobo arrives just in time for a much-needed winter getaway in the iconic seaside town. Read on for more …

Located on Jonson Street near Byron Bay’s town centre, The Bonobo’s dynamic yet boutique design will offer a more social expression of the Raes brand, with standout features including a Lobby Lounge with all-day dining and drinks, and an on-site Reset studio open to the public. Shaped to be moved through with ease and flexibility, the hotel aims to foster connection with the local community while simultaneously delivering a premium guest experience.

The modernist three-level building has been designed by Richards & Spence, with interiors by Studio Manifold, who has created a cohesive experience that complements the building’s bold architectural form. Across The Bonobo, a focus on warmth, tactility and flow sees the use of natural timbers, soft plaster finishes, stone and layered textures creating an atmosphere of calm and understated luxury. The hotel features 33 hotel rooms, plus four one-bedroom, 28 two-bedroom and nine three-bedroom residences with generous layouts suited to both short and extended stays. All residences will feature kitchen and laundry facilities stocked with Breville appliances and pieces from its Aboriginal Culinary Journey collection.

With a dining offering curated by two-hatted Raes Dining executive chef Jason Saxby and a 50-seat Lobby Lounge, The Bonobo has been designed to flow from morning coffee through to long lunches and afternoon aperitivo. The Bonobo adds to Raes’ existing portfolio – Raes Hotel, Raes Guesthouses and Sea Raes – by bringing a boutique offering to those seeking spacious, flexible accommodation.

The hotel’s partnership with Reset will see the wellness studio extend its curated offering to The Bonobo, creating a thoughtfully considered space with a deeply personal and holistic approach to wellbeing.

Here, visitors can find traditional cedar saunas, ice baths, a eucalyptus steam room, a magnesium bath and vitamin C-infused showers, alongside a private treatment room dedicated to LED light therapy, facials and restorative body treatments. With a focus on intentionally personal experiences, private and small-group sessions will allow guests to appreciate an elevated environment designed to feel like a private residence.

The Bonobo by Raes will open its doors in June this year, with retail partners to be announced in the coming months. Hotel bookings are now available online.
