The 2,000 year old festival of Samhain originated in the northern hemisphere long ago to celebrate the end of harvest and honour the boundary between living and dead. Down here in the sourthern hemisphere, Halloween is instead good cause for a good old fashioned dress up, an excuse to indulge in lollies and give your friends a good spook. Here are our top picks for celebrating the historical holiday across the Gold Coast this year.

QT High Tea

In the spirit of Halloween, QT’s Fixx Cafe invites the Gold Coast to indulge in a deliciously dark affair with its Trick or Tea, an eerie yet decadent take on the traditional high tea. Eerie elegance meets indulgence in this Halloween menu, with Dracula’s eyeballs (truffled mushroom arancini), zombie fingers (Veliche white chocolate with raspberry gel), and tombstones (citrus pate sablee with jam and marshmallow), paired with QT’s signature colour-changing Halloween tea. For a hauntingly beautiful dining experience, gather your coven and dress your best for this afternoon of wicked indulgence and playful theatrics.

Singles Party

If you’ve ever wanted to recreate 2014 dating show ‘Sexy Beasts’, then Miami Marketta has just the thing for you. The night before Halloween, the venue will host Sparks Fly Single Socials for a Singles Only Halloween Party, to test the theory that real connections go further than appearances. Dress up as your spookiest self and head to Miami’s Gin Parlour, where Social Bingo breaks the ice before table games, activities and more keep the energy high into the night. If you’re worried about attending alone, don’t be – the majority of attendees arrive solo at Sparks Fly events, and as it’s not a speed dating event, there are no expectations. Just be social and open to meeting new people (and our word of advice? A great costume is the best conversation starter).
