University appoints cancer research chair
The Queensland University of Technology has appointed internationally recognised cancer researcher Professor Si Ming Man as the inaugural Chenhall Chair in Cancer Therapeutics at the School of Biomedical Sciences.
Professor Man is globally recognised for his research that revealed anti-cancer capabilities of the immune system.
Regarding his appointment, Professor Man said he was excited to be joining QUT as an Inaugural Chair.
“In this role, I look forward to engaging with the QUT community and developing collaborative and interdisciplinary programs on cancer therapeutics and immunotherapies, to contribute to the world-leading research ecosystem at QUT,” he said.
Professor Man completed his Bachelor at UNSW, his PhD at the University of Cambridge and his postdoctoral training at St Jude’s in the USA in 2016, before establishing his independent laboratory at ANU in 2019.
He has been awarded more than $20 million in research funding and has been named a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher across multiple years.

Financial firm welcomes new Director
Brisbane accounting and financial services firm AH Jackson & Co has appointed Matthew Smith as director.
Smith commenced with AH Jackson earlier this month following almost 25 years in the accounting industry, including time as co-owner of Brisbane accounting firm Altezza Partners.
AH Jackson Managing Partner Ben Odgers said Smith’s varied accounting expertise and senior leadership experience made him a natural fit for the firm.
“Matt’s appointment will give AH Jackson greater capacity to grow its existing services while expanding into new areas including the Research and Development Tax Incentive and Digital Games Tax Offset,” Odgers said.
Smith brings to the role a portfolio of clients while building a team and strengthening the firm’s business services and advisory capabilities.
With experience across accounting, business advisory and firm leadership, Smith has turned over more than $100 million through his work with family businesses from concept through to establishment.

Smith said a long-standing relationship with Odgers and the wider AH Jackson team was a key factor in his decision to join the firm.
“I’ve known and been good friends with Ben for more than 30 years and my previous firm had worked closely with AH Jackson and the other Partners on mutual clients for many years,” Smith said.
“I’m passionate about helping business owners achieve their aspirations, which is about understanding what is important to them, where they are trying to get to and working backwards to put the strategies and financial metrics in place to make that vision a reality.”
Brisbane manufacturer recruits independent director
Reliance Worldwide Corporation (RWC) has appointed Michael Ferraro as an independent non-executive director.
Ferraro is a leader in manufacturing, energy and resources, with experience working with global businesses.
He previously served as CEO of Alumina Limited until its acquisition by Alcoa Corporation in 2024, and is currently a director of Firmus Grid, Australian Red Cross, Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, Citywide Service Solutions Pty Ltd and chairperson of The CEO Circle.
RWC’s Chairman Russell Chenu said RWC was delighted to welcome Ferraro to the Board.
“Our business will benefit from his strong leadership and management experience and his M&A transactional experience,” Chenu said.
“Mike’s appointment continues our aim of regularly reviewing and strengthening our Board by adding members with relevant skills and experience.”
New officer in charge on the coast
Queensland Police Service has appointed Sergeant Scott Petrie as the new Officer in Charge of the Tin Can Bay Station.
Petrie brings nearly three decades of experience, having begun his career with QPS in 1998 in Fortitude Valley, before serving as a plain clothes detective in North Brisbane, Stanthorpe, Gatton and the Rural Crime Squad.
Having never lived or worked on the coast before, Petrie said he was excited about the new opportunity on offer.
“My latest posting was in southwest Queensland in Roma in General Duties, which is roughly 500 kilometres inland from Tin Can Bay,” Sergeant Petrie said.
