Townsville police have revealed figures showing more than 300 people have been charged with 860 domestic and family violence (DFV) offences since August.

The offences include breaches of domestic violence orders, police protection notices and release conditions.

Townsville police and specialist officers from the Domestic, Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit and Townsville Tactical Crime began a targeted response on August 9.

Since the response began, 1613 people have been charged with 4863 DVF-related offences.

Additional DFV related offences include common assault, assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful stalking, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fraud, burglary enter premises, dangerous driving and arson.

Detective inspector Jason Shepherd said the police and units will continue to target DFV offenders.

“While we are committed to holding perpetrators to account, we also continue to support and protect victims of domestic and family violence,” DI Shepherd said.

“We take a holistic overview of DFV matters and use a range of investigative tools and methodologies to identify offenders whose behaviour show signs of escalating, and work to prevent further harm,” DI Shepherd said.

“It can be difficult to speak up but know there is support available and you are not alone.”

Police arrested a 20-year-old Rasmussen man on October 5 after reports of a domestic violence order breach and damage to a parked vehicle.
