The concept for the Pallara District Sports Park includes outdoor sports fields for community use, clubhouse with facilities, on-site parking as well as bus pick-up and drop-off zones, according to the Brisbane Council.

Pallara Park construction is expected to begin in the 2026/27 financial year, with the Ellen Grove Park following the year after.

The Ellen Grove District Park concept plan features a modern playground, tennis courts and other court-based sport areas, sheltered picnic tables, a clubhouse and community meeting space.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the plans reflected the council’s commitment to invest in high-quality local parks and sports facilities.

“More than 80 per cent of our budget goes into Brisbane’s suburbs because that’s where most Brisbane residents live and play,” Schrinner said.

The two new parks will contribute to the 14 hectares of land that the council has upgraded since 2019. These include Nudgee Recreation Reserve, Wakerley District Sports Park, Bill Brown Sports Park and Brisbane International Cycle Park.

Community consultation for the Pallara Park was held throughout October 2023, and for Ellen Grove in May 2023 and November 2024.

Environment, Parks and Sustainability Chair, Councillor Tracy Davis, said these new plans responded to community consultation for safer, family-friendly spaces with great facilities.

“We’re keeping our promise to invest more than 85 per cent of our budget in the suburbs,” Davis said.

The budget for these two projects would not be finalised until technical investigations, planning, design and contracts were completed.

“A detailed sports needs analysis has helped shape these plans, with local clubs to be identified through future tenders,” Davis said.

Algester Little Athletics centre manager Scott Mackay said the Pallara District Sports Park would need to be large enough to include a 400m track for his club to consider relocating.

“We’ve got our own grounds that we rent from council, but if facilities were made available for little athletics then yes, that could definitely be a benefit to our club,” Mackay said.
