The Queensland government has released a prime parcel of land for sale on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).

The 7,700 square metre freehold block, located near the Dunwich ferry terminal, will be sold on the condition that it be used for tourism purposes to support local jobs.

The move is part of a broader bid to boost the island’s visitor economy and support local jobs.

North Stradbroke Island is a popular tourism hotspot throughout the year, with visitors coming for whale watching, fishing at Amity Point and 4WDriving on Main Beach.

The Dunwich township is the primary port of call to the 38km-long island, which can be accessed by ferry and water taxi from Cleveland.

Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dale Last said the move was part of the Crisafulli Government’s plan to grow Queensland’s tourism sector.

“The Crisafulli Government is delivering on our plan to deliver a better lifestyle through a stronger economy, and we’ve made it clear that this site must be used to build up the island’s visitor economy,” Last said.

Last said Stradbroke Island is one of Queensland’s tourism jewels with much to offer new and returning visitors.

“This is a great location right near the jetty and I’m sure we’ll see a huge level of interest from developers wanting to create the next big tourism drawcard for Straddie,” Last said.

The Dunwich area, where most visitors first arrive on the island, features the North Stradbroke Island Museum, Quampi Aboriginal Arts & Cultural Centre and Straddie Brewing Co.

The Island also offers Indigenous heritage tours, opportunities for swimming, surfing, diving and kayaking and prime locations for spotting local wildlife.

Member for Oodgeroo Amanda Stoker said the release of the land block would deliver real economic benefits to North Stradbroke Island.

“Straddie has so much untapped potential, and this land release sends a clear message that we’re backing local jobs and our tourism sector,” Stoker said.

Stoker said this move responds to the community’s call for more tourism investment and choices for visitors.

“This will bring fresh energy to North Stradbroke Island’s visitor economy and help secure a stronger future for local businesses.”

LJ Hooker Property Centre will lead the sale processes of the parcel of unallocated State land on behalf of the Queensland Government.
