Former wheelchair tennis star Michael Dobbie-Bridges has been appointed as deputy director-general, sport and racing at the Department of Sport, Racing and Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The former Paralympian, who represented Australia in the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, hoped his experience with the Games would give him a “personal connection to what this portfolio exists to deliver”.
“Queensland is at an extraordinary moment – a growing, diverse state preparing to host the world,” he said.
“To lead the sport and racing portfolio at this point in time is a privilege and a responsibility I am genuinely excited to take on.”

Linda Carroll has been appointed as chief operating officer of G8 Education, replacing Shane Dann who stepped down to “pursue other opportunities”.
Carroll would take on the new role from July 20. She currently served as chief people and culture officer.
G8 managing director and CEO Pejman Okhovat said Carroll had “made a significant contribution to G8”.
“I look forward to working with Linda in her new role as chief operating officer as we continue to build a more resilient, mature and sustainable business,” Okhovat said.
The CEO and artistic director of Brisbane theatre La Boite, Courtney Stewart, will step down from the role at the conclusion of her four-year tenure in June.

Since stepping into the role in 2022, Stewart’s leadership at La Boite has secured the theatre’s entry into the National Performing Arts Partnership Framework, delivered its landmark centenary year, premiered its first international co-production and launched its inaugural Giving Day.
Stewart said leading La Boite was the highlight of her career.
“La Boite is a truly exceptional company, one with a remarkably resilient history and an equally exciting future filled with possibility,” Stewart said.
“Few companies in Australia carry the legacy of La Boite. For more than 100 years, it has been a home for artists to stretch into every corner of their practice, to take risks they normally wouldn’t. These artists have gone on to shape cultural organisations and raise new audiences across the country.”
La Boite chair Adam Brunes said Stewart’s impact on the company was profound.
“Courtney has led La Boite with extraordinary energy and integrity at one of the most important moments in our history,” Brunes said.
Brunes said the board was advised of Stewart’s decision in January and has worked to ensure continuity of leadership.
“We are pleased to appoint current General Manager Ian Prowse as Interim CEO, providing strong and steady leadership for the company through this next phase,” Brunes said.
He added that an Artistic Advisory Panel has been created to curate La Boite’s 2027 season while creating space for a thorough national recruitment process.
The interim Artistic Advisory Panel comprises prominent Australian theatre leaders David Berthold, Sue Donnelly and Aunty Roxanne McDonald.
La Boite’s 2027 season will be announced later this year.

The Central Highlands Regional Council has welcomed Amanda Phillott as its newest councillor following the region’s by-election in May.
Mayor Janice Moriarty congratulated Phillott on being the successful candidate and welcomed her to council.
‘The by-election has provided the community with the opportunity to have their say on who they would like to represent them at the Council table,” Moriarty said.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with our newest Councillor to continue delivering essential services to the community and progressing key projects across the region,” she said.
Once sworn in, Amanda Phillott will serve until the next Council election in 2028.
