The sister of a young mother allegedly murdered by for former partner has stepped up as the baby’s carer – a month after losing her own newborn child, relatives say.

The family of Jana Armstrong had been caring for her four-month-old son since the 30-year-old new mum was reported missing on Tuesday, July 7.

Four days later, the search ended in tragedy when her body was found by feral animal hunters in remote terrain near Toowoomba, west of Brisbane.

Taking to social media, Armstrong’s sister Faith Isaacs revealed she would take care of her beloved sibling’s child.

“Losing my beautiful sister in this way is something I will never be able to understand or put into words,” she posted on Sunday.

“I promise you, Jana, your beautiful baby boy will always know exactly who his mummy was.”

In a sad twist, extended family revealed that only last month Isaacs lost her own newborn baby.

“The weight this family is carrying is almost impossible to put into words,” Armstrong’s cousins Hannah and Lara Sweedman wrote on a GoFundMe fundraiser.

“Only last month, Faith … experienced the devastating loss of (her) own newborn baby and had to do what no parent should ever have to do and say goodbye and lay their baby to rest.”

The cousins went on to reveal Armstrong and her siblings had also lost their mum to breast cancer seven years ago, while their father died of a heart attack five years ago.

“Jana was the glue for the family. (Now) we don’t know what the coming days, weeks or months will bring.”

The campaign had raised nearly $60,000 by Tuesday morning, with the funds to go toward funeral costs and raising Armstrong’s child.

Meanwhile, the man accused of her murder faced court by video link on Monday.

A lawyer for Dharminder Singh, 48, said his client would fight the murder charge.

“He’s OK. He’s quite distressed,” he said in a statement.

“My client asserts his innocence. This matter will be defended – my client has rights.

“My client has co-operated with the police in the course of their investigations into this matter.”

Singh was remanded in custody and his matter adjourned until October 1.
