A 21-year-old woman has died in hospital after suffering extensive burns in a unit fire on the Sunshine Coast.

Emergency services received reports of a fire at a unit block on King Street in Buderim on Sunday, around 7.30pm.

When emergency services personnel arrived on the scene, one of the units was fully engulfed by flames, police said.

A 21-year-old Kallangur woman, who was inside the home at the time, managed to escape the blaze, but suffered life-threatening burns to her entire body.

She was taken the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition, but later died.

Other units were also evacuated while crews extinguished the blaze.

Police said the cause of the fire had yet to be determined and an investigation had since been launched.
