Brisbane Mayor launches 20-year Kedron Brook vision
The Brisbane City Council has unveiled its 20-year draft vision for the Kedron Brook Revitalisation opening up a new round of community consultation.
The Kedron Brook Revitalisation 20-year draft vision has been released with the Brisbane City Council Mayor saying it aimed to shape the future of one of Brisbane’s most-loved waterways.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Brisbane was built around outdoor landscapes like Kedron Brook.
“The community has already helped shape this draft and now we’re asking people what they think about our draft vision before it’s finalised,” Schrinner said.
He claimed the blueprint set out a long-term vision for a healthier and more resilient waterway, while focusing on ensuring Kedron Brook was an important lifestyle and recreation corridor.
A first round of public consultation attracted 1500 pieces of community feedback which has then helped shape the draft plan alongside detailed technical investigations.
The plan showed that the site’s 20km of pathways – used by more than 600,000 cyclists and pedestrians every year – would be upgraded and widened for improved walking, running and cycling connections.
It also aimed to:
- See flood-prone bikeways would also be relocated, with safer crossings, flood-proof lighting and more resilient bridges and connecting streetscaping established throughout.
- Concrete drains would be replaced with natural waterways at Grinstead Park, with waterway pinch points widening throughout Kedron Brook.
- The blueprint identifies opportunities to strengthen wildlife habitat, improve water quality, restore natural systems and increase resilience to flooding.
Environment, Parks and Sustainability Chair Councillor Tracy Davis said Kedron Brook was part of the daily life for tens of thousands of Brisbane residents.

“This draft vision is about making it an even better place to walk, ride, play, exercise and spend time with family and friends,” Davis said.
The Kedron Brook vision follows the implementation of the 20-year Oxley Creek Transformation project and the proposed revitalisation of the Wynnum, Manly and Lota foreshores.
Community consultation closes on Sunday September 6, once the draft plan is finalised, it was expected to be delivered in stages over the coming decades.
