Sky high: Queensland penthouse sets new price record, but with a catch
A mystery deal for an under-construction beachfront penthouse could topple apartment price records in the state.
A beachfront penthouse deal, worth up to $35 million, is set to smash the state’s apartment sales record – but there is a catch.
The transaction reportedly hinges on the potential buyer winning approval for lavish upgrades to the under construction Ocean Place tower in Burleigh Heads.
Documents lodged with Gold Coast City Council show an application has been separately approved to amend the top of the building in question at 216 The Esplanade.
It would mean a 4.2m height extension to the existing building plan that would lift the property by two storeys, and increase the tower’s overall height to 68.38m.
The extra “pop-top” storey would also reportedly feature an oceanfront infinity pool and wellness spa.
A spokesperson for the building’s developer, Pask, told InDaily they were not “in a position to verify or comment on the specific details of the reported sale” that involves the buyer’s plan to make the top-storey changes.
But a council spokesperson confirmed the application for amendments to Ocean Place tower – which were lodged in May – were approved last month.
If the sale is to go ahead, it will eclipse the current $30m benchmark set earlier this year along the same strip.

That record $30 million sale was for an under-construction penthouse One Burleigh, which is located at 88 The Esplanade, Burleigh Heads.
The off-market sale, which equates to $39,370 per square metre, was handled by Freddie Tehle of PRD Burleigh Heads.
It smashed the state’s previous record of $24m for the most expensive apartment, which was set in 2023 for a unit in Spyre’s Glasshouse project in the same sought-after Gold Coast suburb.
