Australia’s only 100 percent Indigenous and veteran-owned aerospace business – invited by NASA to view Artemis II ahead of its launch at Cape Canaveral – is winning new accolades.

Gunggandji Aerospace Founder and Managing Director Daniel Joinbee says winning Suppy Nation’s 2026 Certified Supplier of the Year showed the significance of Indigenous business in Australia’s economy and future.
The award recognises business growth, commercial engagement, long-term relationships and contribution to building a prosperous and sustainable Indigenous business sector.
“Across the country, Indigenous businesses are creating jobs, solving problems, delivering value, and making a real contribution to Australia’s economy,” Joinbee says. “Recognition like this helps make that contribution more visible.”
Joinbee said the recognition at the national Supplier Diversity Awards in Perth gave organisations more confidence to back Indigenous businesses and Indigenous entrepreneurs the confidence to pursue their own ambitions.
Gunggandji Aerospace provides specialist services across Defence, aviation, aerospace, government, critical infrastructure, research and technology industries, specialising in complex, regulated and security-sensitive environments.
Its work spans technical consulting and professional services, aviation and airspace advisory, operational readiness, Counter UAS capability, applied technology development and complex project and programme delivery.
Joinbee was invited by NASA to view Artemis II ahead of its launch at Cape Canaveral to represent Gunggandji Aerospace as the only Australian business represented.
“When organisations engage Indigenous businesses for the capability and value they bring, rather than simply to meet a procurement requirement, everybody benefits,” Joinbee said.
He added that engaging a business for what it can actually deliver creates room for Indigenous businesses to grow, expand employment, strengthen capability and create new opportunities.
“For us, this is about showing the breadth of what Indigenous businesses can and already are delivering across the Australian economy, including in some of our most technically complex and strategically important industries.”
Joinbee and Gunggandji Aerospace is dedicated to creating opportunities for First Nations people in industries where they have been historically underrepresented.
