A disability support worker has been charged after allegedly grooming and indecently assaulting a boy under his care.

The 45-year-old man committed the offences between 2020 and 2024 during his caring duties, police said.

The boy was aged in his early teens during the alleged offences.

The 45-year-old man has been charged with 13 offences overall.

The matter was first reported to Queensland Police in mid-September.

“I acknowledge the enormous courage the victim has shown in coming forward,” Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Grant said in a statement.

“No one should have to experience alleged offences of this nature, especially from someone who is meant to care for them.”

After a Child Protection Investigation Unit investigation, the 45-year-old Moorooka man was arrested on September 30.

The man has been charged with 13 offences including three counts of indecent treatment of children under 16.

The string of charges includes two counts each of grooming a child under 16 and supplying dangerous drugs to minor under 16.

Investigations remain ongoing and anyone with information should contract police.

“Police treat any reports of this nature with the utmost seriousness,” Grant said.

“If anyone else has experienced behaviour of this nature or believes they may have information that relates, we urge you to contact police.

“You do not have to face this process alone and there are support services available to help you.”

The man was held in custody and first appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 1.

He is expected to reappear on November 23.
