Old-world glamour takes centre stage at Brisbane Festival when the immersive cabaret experience GATSBY at The Green Light makes its dazzling debut. From September 2–28, Twelfth Night Theatre in Bowen Hills will shed its familiar form to become the hottest club in town – a place where the Roaring Twenties are reborn for a new century, and the line between past and present blurs beneath the glow of the green light.
Marking the 100th anniversary of The Great Gatsby, the unmissable production channels F. Scott Fitzgerald’s timeless themes of love, longing and excess through a heady fusion of cabaret, variety and contemporary performance. A highlight of Brisbane Festival, the immersive experience will see Twelfth Night Theatre transform into The Green Light – a Jazz Age nightclub where vaudeville artistry collides with modern spectacle
Inside, the spirit of the 1920s glitters in every detail. Classic, toe-tapping jazz tunes get a contemporary shake-up, aerialists tumble overhead and sequinned dancers command the stage. Every scene bursts with colour and movement, as shimmering costumes catch the spotlight, vocals fill the air with passion and the room hums with the thrill of the unexpected – while audiences sink into their chairs, gin martini in hand, soaking up the spectacle around them.
GATSBY at The Green Light fuses jazz, circus, dance and theatre to create an intoxicating and captivating cabaret experience that sweeps each guest deep into the dazzling chaos and irresistible charm of the Jazz Age.
An international collaboration between Brisbane Festival, Singapore Repertory Theatre and Sydney Theatre Company, GATSBY at The Green Light will launch its season in Brisbane from September 2–28, before travelling to Singapore and Sydney, carrying its much-hyped blend of Roaring Twenties nostalgia and contemporary flair to new audiences.
