Forget the front row – this September, Brisbane Festival is dropping a 360-degree stage in the middle of The Tivoli, wrapping the crowd all around it, and throwing five nights of unmissable live music. Back by popular demand, Tivoli in the Round flips the classic live-music gig on its head, transforming the venue into an intimate arena where audiences are eye-to-eye with the artists, creating a true surround-sound experience.
Across five nights, five wildly different acts will step into the circle. Things spark to life on Friday September 5 with Mallrat, Brisbane’s own pop visionary, whose dreamy hooks and shimmering anthems will turn the room into a kaleidoscope of sound. On Tuesday September 9, infectious trio Phantastic Ferniture brings its cult garage-pop back to the stage for a loose, loud and gloriously fun night. Wednesday September 10 belongs to C.W. Stoneking, the bluesman who has strolled straight out of another era, who will be tales steeped in New Orleans jazz, calypso, gospel and old-school grit.
The tempo then shifts dramatically on Friday September 12, when Scottish producer Franck (with soon-to-be-announced special guests) unleashes a techno storm, with his high-octane beats set to turn The Tivoli into a rave-lit dance floor. Closing the series on Saturday September 13 is Odd Mob, the Brisbane-born DJ whose club-bending chaos has conquered global dancefloors and now returns to set the home crowd alight.
For five nights the walls of The Tivoli will hum a little differently – the stage at its centre, the crowd drawn in close, creating a live-music experience like no other. Tickets are selling fast – be quick to book via the Brisbane Festival website so you don’t miss a beat.
