Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) returns next week, set to infuse the city with four days of cinematic excitement, outdoor screenings and standout premieres. From November 27–30, Brisbane will come alive with storytelling and film experiences that stretch far beyond the traditional cinema setting.

This year, the BIFF program extends across the city, turning some of Brisbane’s most iconic spots into lively, unexpected film destinations.

Opening night at Howard Smith Wharves raises the curtain with a glamorous gala and the Australian premiere of Agon, the directorial debut of Italian filmmaker Giulio Bertelli, the son of fashion icon Miuccia Prada. Then on Friday November 28, The Star Brisbane’s Leisure Deck gets a punch of nostalgia as Bring It On takes over for its 25th anniversary, with the film’s original director Peyton Reed in attendance.

Saturday November 29 delivers one of BIFF’s most spectacular line-ups. Streets Beach at South Bank will transform into a floating cinema for a double-feature event, pairing a 50th anniversary screening of Spielberg’s Jaws with Brisbane-shot thriller Beasts of War. Across the river, The Star Brisbane is hosting the Australian premiere of A Life Illuminated, a documentary on ocean explorer Dr Edie Widder, accompanied by an all-ages Glow Rave complete with shimmering light installations and performances by Dead Puppet Society.

The festival closes on Sunday November 30 at South Bank Piazza with the Queensland premiere of It’s Never Over: Jeff Buckley, followed by a live concert of Grace performed by a stellar line-up of Queensland artists, including Jaguar Jonze and Katie Noonan.

Beyond the headline moments, BIFF’s program features more than 60 films, including 29 Australian premieres, which will be screened across venues like Palace Centro, Palace Barracks, New Farm Cinemas and Elizabeth Street Picture House.
