Brisbane’s biggest showcase of Asian culture, cuisine, art and music BrisAsia Festival returns this February. From comedy galas and K-pop showcases to Chinese Opera and skate workshops, this is one festival you won’t want to miss. Read on for more …

The BrisAsia Festival has long been a February highlight on Brisbane’s cultural calendar. From Friday February 13–22, the city will saddle up to celebrate Lunar New Year and the Year of the Horse. Now in its 14th year, the festival is set to be bigger than ever, returning with 28 events – including ten new experiences – across 17 Brisbane suburbs and featuring more than 350 talented artists.

Festivities kick off on Friday February 13 with the crowd-favourite Southside By Night, featuring street food, hip-hop and DJ performances by local artists, all set against a backdrop of performance cars. On Saturday February 14, audiences can enjoy a high-energy K-pop dance showcase with ON:STAGE at the Queensland Multicultural Centre, laugh out loud at the first BrisAsia Comedy Gala at Brisbane Powerhouse or catch Hyoshi in Counterpoint, a free all-ages concert by an all-female Asian-fusion band.

Other new additions to this year’s program include the sophisticated Lunar Soul Party on The Kite Terrace at the Thomas Dixon Centre, Velvet Lounge at Mr Vain Restaurant and Bar for lovers of smooth neo-soul and R&B, and BrisAsia Sk8 Zone, showcasing rising Asian-Australian skaters. BrisAsia Comedy has also expanded to include fun, interactive improv workshops at Big Fork Theatre, while 守破離 – Shu Ha Ri, a special performance presented by Lord Mayor’s City Hall Concerts, brings a refined artistic highlight to the program.

Returning fan favourites include the adrenaline-fuelled BrisAsia Dance Battles at Queen Street Mall and Sunnybank’s family-friendly Lunar New Year Rooftop Party, complete with fireworks, lion and dragon dances, and live entertainment.

Entertainment isn’t the only thing being celebrated – food lovers are also in for a treat. Mr Vain Restaurant and Bar will curate an intimate R&B dining experience, while Southside Restaurant will host a market-style pop-up led by renowned chef Benny Lam.
