There are places within your city where the opportunities to learn, discover, play and imagine are plentiful; you just need to know where to look. So for those seeking new inspiration, connection, or just an excuse to get out of the house, read on to discover the events happening across the libraries, galleries and museums of Moreton Bay in the months to come.
The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards
Rather than doomscrolling funny animal videos on your phone, grab a pal (or the family) and head down to the Redcliffe Museum to explore the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards exhibition. A curation of 60 photos from around the world, this annual exhibition celebrates moments from wildlife that the average person won’t ever have seen, and also highlights what we need to do to protect precious members of the natural world.
Visitors also have the opportunity to bid on photographs (until Sunday October 11) in a silent auction to bring a little bit of the joy home with you.
The exhibition is on until Sunday October 18 at the Redcliffe Museum.

An initiative within the galleries of Moreton Bay to enhance the Council’s Art Collection, 15 Artists invites 15 artists to participate in the exhibition for the opportunity to win $20,000 and have their work acquired into the Collection. Used as a medium for storytelling and artistic expression, lace is much more than just a fabric or decoration. Perfect for lovers of art, fashion and history, this exhibition invites visitors to take a closer look at the intricate patterns of lace and the various lace-making techniques, as well as learn more about the status, wealth and historical significance attached to lace over the decades.
Lace it up can be found at the Bribie Island Seaside Museum until Sunday December 6.
Dementia Action Week: Creating connections with flash fiction
Storytelling isn’t just a way to learn; it also provides an opportunity to connect and support one another, which is the intention behind this flash fiction workshop hosted during Dementia Action Week from Monday September 21 to Sunday September 27.
Hosted by author, educator and dementia advocate Janet Thomas, this small group session is designed for people with early-stage dementia and their care partners. Participants will play with words and imagination to create a (very) short story, using creative expression as a way to improve mental health and wellbeing. This type of creative activity can foster social connection and wellbeing among those living with dementia, which is precisely the reason Janet hosts workshops such as this.
The session will be held at North Lakes Library on Tuesday September 22 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. A morning tea and light lunch will also be served, and bookings are required to reserve your space at this free event.

Meet the Author: Romance authors panel
For bookworms, romance novel lovers and writers, an exciting panel will be held at North Lakes Library this September. Popular romance authors Amy Andrews, Renae Black and Stella Quinn will share a panel, chatting about their latest books, their writing and everything romance.
The event includes an audience Q&A and a book signing, with books available to purchase on the night. Bookings are essential, so make sure you reserve your seat at this free event on Thursday September 24, with a 6:00 pm arrival time.
