From news of an ambitious new 800-person brewery, distillery and gastropub to a fresh produce-driven cafe in New Farm, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Landers Pocket
Brisbane’s hospitality scene will welcome a bold and ambitious new addition next month with the hotly anticipated arrival of multifaceted food, drink and entertainment precinct Landers Pocket. Touted as the biggest entertainment precinct to launch since Howard Smith Wharves, the 16-ha development (housed a short distance from DFO Brisbane near the airport) will house an 800-person brewery, distillery and gastropub, in addition to leading golf performance venue Golf Central.

Inside the gastropub (dubbed 4 Pines Brewing at Landers Pocket) a shiny, newly commissioned brew kit will soon start crafting beers from the nationally beloved brew crew, with 32 taps expected to pour a wide assortment of beers – including two taps dispensing a rotating selection of bespoke, limited-edition sips only available on site. Landers Pocket will also house a distillery overseen by the team at Never Never Distilling Co., which is expected to craft spirits infused with local flavours. A sizeable kitchen will pump out a menu of elevated gastropub fare showcasing local produce and seafood, all available to enjoy in Landers Pocket’s interior dining area and sprawling alfresco beer garden. In addition to Golf Central’s top-of-the-line data-driven range tees, guests will be able to book party driving bays or indulge in some friendly competition on the brand-new mini golf course.

“Our vision for Landers Pocket is to create a truly unique entertainment destination – a place that celebrates award-winning beer and gin, new-wave golf, and elevated dining,” says Landers Pocket director James Cooper. “This is just the beginning.”

Just the beginning is spot on – Landers Pocket will expand further in 2026 with more additions, including a 3000-person amphitheatre equipped for live-music performances and major events, as well as a 1000-person lawn for festivals, market pop-ups and family-friendly activations. We’ll be taking a tour of Landers Pocket when it comes – we’ll have more for you soon.

This and That
The Brunswick Street site previously home to A Cafe Called Kevin will soon be reborn as produce-driven cafe This and That, which is expected to open in early-to-mid November. This and That will retain Kevin’s charming sun-dapped aesthetic, with a few key upgrades to the kitchen expected to pay dividends when it comes to the debut menu, which we’re told will focus on real food, served simply and made with local ingredients. Once open, expect to find a breakfast and brunch menu filled with familiar favourites, transitioning at lunchtime to offer a rotating selection of sandwiches and salads. On the coffee front, beans will be sourced from local roasting outfit Cavalier Coffee Roasters, while tea from fellow New Farm local Tour de Tea will be available alongside cold-pressed juices and smoothies. We’ll be taking a closer look at This and That when it opens to the public – check back soon for a full rundown.

Doughcraft Lane
Summer might be over in Europe, but things are just starting to heat up in Brisbane. The crew behind inner-city boulangerie, ristorante and pinseria Doughcraft has expanded, extending into the alley behind its Mary Street location to create Doughcraft Lane – a Euro-inspired oasis perfect for aperitivo and private events. Shaded by a number of suspended orange-hued umbrellas, Doughcraft Lane will be the go-to spot for Aperol spritzes, antipasti, artisanal pizzas, seasonal bites and party vibes. Speaking of parties, Doughcraft Lane is launching to the public on Saturday October 26, with some lively celebrations planned. Check out Doughcraft Lane on Instagram for more details.

TABOO
After some pesky weather-related delays and months of anticipation, Brisbane’s newest sky-high dining destination TABOO is finally open to the public. The Thai-inspired sanctuary – the newest concept from the Mr. Vain team – officially opened over the weekend, debuting an eye-catching monochrome-green dining space atop The Constance Hotel in Fortitude Valley. TABOO’s opening marks step one of a three-phase launch, with the venue launching a breakfast menu that reimagines Thai flavours with modern finesse. Swing through this week and you’ll be treated to Thai-style eggs Benedict with crispy roti, pork belly and red curry hollandaise, scrambled eggs with Mooloolaba king prawns, coconut pancakes with whipped coconut cream and salted Thai coffee caramel, and maple and lime French toast with fresh berries. In addition to the a la carte menu, TABOO’s launch offering also includes the Brunch Club Banquet – chef-curated feast featuring oysters with nam jim granita, kingfish ceviche with green mango and Crying Tiger wagyu striploin. The banquet offers a teaser of TABOO’s soon-to-come lunch and dinner menu, fashioned by head chef Alec Kapitz (previously of Cloudland) and group executive chef Benson Skelton. TABOO’s brunch service runs from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm, Wednesday through Sunday.

CHAAN Thai
Attention Paddington locals, a new restaurant and bar celebrating the spirit of togetherness is set to open in your neighbourhood in early November. CHAAN is the name of the family-owned venue, which will look to showcase the true flavours and warmth of Thailand’s food culture via a menu that is bold and comforting in equal measure. Elements of CHAAN’s offering was born at the family’s original restaurant on Khao Sarn Road in Bangkok, with signature dishes like soft-shell crab yellow curry, king prawns with tangy-sweet tamarind sauce and kung op woon sen (steamed glass noodles with prawns and ginger) emblematic of the restaurant’s philosophy – simple, soulful and made with love. As for the space, the team is keeping exact details close to the chest, but we’ve been told to expect an atmosphere that is cosy, warm and welcoming. Stay tuned for more!

Bracken Ridge Tavern
Long-running community institution – the Bracken Ridge Tavern – is gearing up to lift the cloche on the first phase of its whopping $10-million transformation in November, unveiling a suite of completely reimagined amenities catering to families, food lovers and social groups. Headlining the phase-one additions include a brand-new Italian eatery, a refreshed garden terrace and a chic redesign of Bracken Ridge Tavern’s steakhouse Panama Jacks. The refurb, spearheaded by KP Architects, has also added new kids’ playroom and outdoor grassed areas, while the gaming room has been given a Las Vegas-inspired makeover courtesy of custom joinery and new machines. Phase two will see the launch of The Captain’s Sports Bar, which the Bracken Ridge Tavern team described as a modern social hub equipped with multiple screens and a brand-new function room for celebrations of all kinds.
