Boom Boom Room
If it’s been a minute since you’ve been to Ghanem Group’s Asian-inspired underground bar and eatery, the Boom Boom Room, here’s a great excuse to book in for a visit. The venue is reopening this Friday March 6 after a brief hiatus, debuting a music-led supper club experience that is designed to reaffirm Boom Boom Room’s status as a late-night destination. On Friday and Saturday nights, guests can descend down into Boom Boom Room’s glitzy subterranean surroundings and enjoy vibey DJ sets, which build into live soul and jazz performances, riotous burlesque shows, and after-dark dance parties. On Thursdays, those looking to start the weekend early can visit for after-work drinks and curated vinyl sessions evoking a slick listening lounge experience. That’s not all that’s new at the Boom Boom Room – Ghanem Group executive chef Jake Nicolson and head chef Lyndon Tyers have retooled the menu, infusing it with flavours inspired by the street-food cultures of Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea and Indonesia. Big snacks and small plates are key to the offering, with fried soft-shell crab baos and steamed lobster siu mai segueing into larger plates of rendang beef curry and BBQ whole barramundi. The cocktail list has also received a few tweaks, with a host of new concoctions on deck. Head to the Boom Boom Room website to make a booking.

ALIA Gelato
A new sweet spot has been causing a stir over in Milton recently, with ALIA Gelato snagging hearts and taste buds with a tasty combo of Italian culinary traditions, sustainable values and a local lean. The gelateria is owned and operated by Alessia Anibaldi, who exchanged a globe-trotting career in humanitarian work for the title of dessert doyenne in 2025, learning the craft of gelato making under Sicilian pastry and gelato master Nino De Pasquale. Alessia has been putting those teachings to work at ALIA, which has been operating on Park Road (next door to Arrivederci Pizza) since early February. Here, locals have become enamoured with ALIA’s premium small-batch offering, which includes classic flavours like pistachio, stracciatella and strawberry, as well as creative seasonal additions that trigger everything from nostalgia to joy. Here, each scoop is made using traditional Italian techniques and gourmet ingredients sourced from local fruit farmers, and comes served in compostable packaging. ALIA Gelato is celebrating its grand opening on Friday March 6.
CONA
If you’re on the hunt for a new coffee spot to try, make tracks for Ann Street, where you’ll find brand-new caffeine dispensary CONA. The newest concept from the team behind Arbour in South Bank, CONA is officially opening to the public today in the space previously home to The Cutting Board. Here, the team is serving not one, but two of its own coffee blends, alongside single-origin batch brews, cold-brew coffee and Uji matcha. On the food front, guests can find a selection of grab-and-go sandwiches and salads on offer.
Gerties Bar and Restaurant
It’s been a tough week for New Farm locals, following the news that long-running venue Gerties Bar and Restaurant officially closed its doors over the weekend after 32 years of operation. Speaking to our friends at InDaily Queensland, Gerties owner Edwin Raul Chocop said that the option to renew Gerties’ lease was not offered after the site was acquired by a new landlord. But that might not be the last we see of Gerties – Edwin is eager to relocate the storied bar to a new site elsewhere in Brisbane, launching a GoFundMe campaign last week, with a goal to raise $10,000 to cover permits, equipment and fit-out costs. Stay tuned for updates on Gerties’ next chapter as things progress.
