Hachi Hachi Bar
A little slice of Tokyo arrived in Toowoomba last Saturday, with Hachi Hachi Bar bringing the intimate, old-school hospitality of Japan’s tiny bars to a hidden laneway space off Duggan Street – previously home to acclaimed boozer, Santé Cocktail Bar. Born from a lifelong connection to hospitality and a love of Japan’s omotenashi philosophy, the small, candle-lit bar is pairing slow, attentive table service with artisanal and classic cocktails infused with Japanese flavours – think wasabi, nori, shiso and miso – alongside highballs, sake, shochu and Japanese whisky. Signature serves include a miso-and-shiso butter-washed old fashioned and a sparkling-sake-topped martini, with izakaya-inspired bar snacks expected to follow. Intended as a cosy destination for date nights, pre-dinner drinks and lingering late-night libations, Hachi Hachi is looking to conjure a feeling of discovery and quickly make an impression with locals. After a brief post-launch reset, Hachi Hachi Bar will open to the public on Thursday.
NYC Bagel Deli
The team behind one of Brisbane’s best bagel joints has some exciting news to share. NYC Bagel Deli will be opening a new dispensary at Boggo Road Village on Wednesday August 19. The site, the size of which will reportedly sit somewhere in between NYC Bagel Deli’s West End flagship and Chermside satellite outpost, will offer the same menu as its siblings, with some added grab-and-go options also available alongside pies and sausage rolls from Cordelia Sourdough Bakehouse. The location will also serve coffee, with the Compton Road blend from 5 Senses on deck for caffeine seekers.

CASK by Pomona
Sunshine Coast spirits lovers, this one is for you. The team behind Pomona Distilling Co and Bavay Distillery is set to expand its offering with a brand-new intimate, speakeasy-inspired bar and a specialised events venue opening in the coming weeks. CASK is a cocktail-led concept focusing on timeless concoctions executed well, with aesthetic inspiration from classic European and New York cocktail bars helping create a vibe that eschews pretension while remaining refined. The venue will serve cocktails that have been aged in-house in wooden casks to develop greater depth, balance and complexity, with the menu divided into three easy-to-navigate categories – Aged, Indulgent and Fresh. Premium international whiskies, cognacs, rums and aperitifs will feature in the back bar, while native ingredients including Davidson plum, pink peppercorn and finger lime are expected to feature heavily.
CASK will also be popping bottles of champagne alongside caviar pairings and refined, French-inspired eats like beef tartare, gin-cured salmon doughnuts, roasted bone marrow, moules mariniere and New York strip with cognac peppercorn cream. The space itself will be intimate and inviting, with an aesthetic of rich timber, aged copper detailing and warm lighting paired with luxurious velvet and suede bucket seating. In addition to CASK, Pomona Distilling Co is also launching The Barrel House – an events venue purpose-built to host weddings, corporate functions and private celebrations, as well as every barrel of rum, whisky and tequila produced by Bavay Distillery. QUIVR Sound Room
In case you missed the news yesterday, one of The Valley’s best music collectives has announced an exciting expansion. QUIVR is making room for its next chapter with the Sound Room, a 170-capacity, sound-first addition to its Winn Lane home where club culture meets wine-bar sophistication. Set to open in early September, the new space (equipped with a custom sound system and flexible performance space) will combine hi-fi listening, electronic sets and live music with wine, cocktails and small plates. Designed as a place for Brisbane’s music community to listen, linger and explore, Sound Room will also give QUIVR the room to welcome bigger local, interstate and international acts while continuing to champion the emerging talent and queer community at its core.
